My Experience Using AI: Benefits, Drawbacks, and Real Insights
Hello, it’s been a while since I last posted on this blog.
Recently, I heard that Grok 3.5 is about to be released, and it inspired me to write this post.
I’m currently a third-year computer science student, and I study AI as part of my coursework. Beyond academics, I also use various AI tools extensively in my daily life.
However, when I look at news about AI, I often see conflicting opinions. Some claim that "AI is just a bubble," while others believe "AI will change everything." There are plenty of skeptical perspectives too.
Looking at my non-tech-savvy friends, most of them only use AI for fun, like creating Ghibli-style images with ChatGPT during the Ghibli trend or asking it simple questions. But for me, AI is much more than that. (Honestly, it’s quite expensive too...)
I actively use not just ChatGPT, but also the latest AI tools like Gemini and Grok. From English translation and coding assistance to turning ideas into reality, I’ve experienced a lot. And through this journey, I’ve come to understand both the strengths and weaknesses of AI.
So in this post, I want to share what I’ve learned – the pros and cons of using AI, not based on hype or fear, but on real experiences.
Advantages
Using AI has clear advantages:
-
Efficient Document Management: It can quickly summarize complex documents or organize them neatly, greatly improving productivity.
-
Access to Expertise Without Being an Expert: Whether it’s medical advice, legal insights, or financial tips, I can get reliable answers without having deep domain knowledge.
-
Enhanced Coding Efficiency: AI helps me write cleaner and more efficient code, fixing bugs faster and improving my workflow.
-
Breaking Language Barriers: English translation, communication, and content interpretation have become effortless. I can now engage with global information without any linguistic limitations.
Disadvantages
But there are also significant downsides:
-
Reduced Critical Thinking: Since AI provides instant answers, I feel I’m losing the habit of thinking deeply about problems. This is especially noticeable in coding, where I’m less inclined to solve problems on my own.
-
The Limitations of MCP: I’ve tried using MCP (Model Context Protocol), but it feels more like a hassle than a solution due to its complexity. It seems too early for practical use right now.
-
Uncertainty in Automation and Investment: I’m curious whether AI can be a reliable source of income through automation, but it feels risky. Setting it up can be costly, and maintaining it isn’t always straightforward.
-
Increasing Dependency: The more I use AI, the more I worry about losing my creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Conclusion
In my experience, AI is not a bubble.
It has its drawbacks, but it’s a powerful tool that can transform our lives depending on how we use it. The key is to keep exploring how to make the most of AI without losing our own critical thinking and creativity.
